The REACH Partnership which was formed in built on this strong tradition with the over-arching aim of improving the progression prospects of our young people from groups currently under-represented in HE. The partnership encompasses all universities, schools and colleges in the city and county, as well as other key education stakeholders.

The Partnership is overseen by a Management Group which meets twice a term to review the work of the Partnership. The management group includes representation from all of our local Higher Education providers, including Colleges that deliver HE, as well as Schools and Colleges in Leicester and Leicestershire and the Local Authorities. It co-ordinates events for learners aimed at raising aspirations, attainment and progression to FE and HE, it robustly tracks, monitors and evaluates the work.

It’s success is dependent on the work and co-operation of all partners. The University of Leicester made the decision due to the coronavirus outbreak. Students finishing degrees at the University of Leicester are going to have to wait up to a year for their graduation ceremonies. The coronavirus outbreak has already closed the university, which shut its doors on March 20, one week before it was due to close for the Easter break. It is unclear when the campus will re-open but the university today announced on Twitter that the graduation ceremonies due to take place in July of this year will be postponed.

The students who were due to graduate will be awarded their degrees as normal this summer but instead of attending a ceremony, they will be invited back either in January or the following July. The university is looking at ways to cover the costs for students who cannot afford to return to Leicester at a future date. Further information will be available in due course.
